An Advanced Analytical Look At The Academics & Partying College Chart Going Viral
I’ve seen this chart on various accounts throughout the past few days:
I think this chart may be a bit old? The UConn logo (bottom right quadrant) is the new Husky, but that changed in 2013, so who knows specifically when this chart is made. People are talking about it, though, so who really cares. Determining what a “party school” is is definitely an imperfect science, but let’s dive into each of these four quadrants:
Most Partying-Least Academics:
Being in this quadrant isn’t awful. Going to a not so great school that parties a bunch isn’t a bad way to spend your 4 years in college (after you graduate is a different discussion). ECU, Bowling Green, and West Virginia are all great examples.
Some of these schools in this quadrant may get a bit emotional over there academic ranking. I’m looking at the likes of JMU and SJU (in Philly) to get the maddest. The alumni I have met from those schools are very proud of their school’s academics. Overall, a great 1st quadrant.
Most Academics-Most Partying:
Right in the middle of this quadrant is where you want to be. This chart may be giving a bit too much party credit to NYU. Sure, the kids party a lot, but it’s at NYC bars with $7 beers.
Also, since when is Rutgers a top 25% academics school?
Least Academics-Least Partying:
Probably the last place you want to be. Fairfield is too low, both for academics and partying. That’s a great school that parties hard. Boise State and FAU should be flipped. BSU is a commuter school, no way you can put them that high on the party index, while the FAU kids I know go out 4-6 times a week.
Least Partying-Most Academics:
UConn is WAY too low in terms of partying. Other than that, this quadrant doesn’t look bad. I agree with where Fordham, Duke, Wake Forest, and Villanova are. Tough look for Fordham to be lower than Villanova on the party index. Nothing a Fordham kid likes saying more than “Villa-no-fun.”
American University is probably a bit too high in terms of partying. I, mean, unless you consider an Antifa gathering a good party, they shouldn’t be that high.
