Top Georgia WR Kicked Off Team For Alleged Assault In 2018

Big news out of Athens. Jeremiah Holloman is a big loss for Georgia. The WR caught 5 TDs last year and was expected to play a big roll in the 2019 team as the leading returning receiver.

SOURCE-“Jeremiah Holloman no longer represents the University of Georgia football program,” Coach Kirby Smart said in a statement to The Covington News. “We expect every member of our team to uphold the highest standards and values of the University of Georgia and Georgia football. It is disappointing when this does not happen.”

According to a UGA Police Department incident report, a female victim came to the police department Sunday, June 2 to report an assault that occurred around 4 a.m. April 22, 2018.

The victim, reported arguing with Holloman after the 2018 G-Day Game. She then called Hollman’s brother to pick her up from his dorm room located in Rooker Hall.

While waiting for Holloman’s brother to arrive, the victim reported Holloman began to choke her.

“(The victim) stated that (the brother) walked in at this point and pulled the suspect (Holloman) off her,” according to the report. “(The victim) stated she got behind (the brother) for protection. (The victim) stated the suspect (Holloman) then reached over (the brother) and punched her in the face.”

The allegations? They are brutal. If they are true, Kirby Smart was 100% correct in taking Holloman off the team. The investigation started on June 2nd, almost a full year after the alleged incident. Maybe Smart has evidence that we don’t? Who knows. It’s his program and he can do whatever he wants. However, I would hate to see a career put on hold for something that didn’t happen. Kirby Smart had every reason to keep Holloman on the team, so the evidence supporting his innocence may not be strong.

Now, what does this mean for Georgia? Demetris Robinson and Tyler Simmons will have to pick up their game. Robinson was a former 5-star, so I’d expect him to elevate his game. Simmons was a 4-star as well. Freshman 5-star recruit George Pickens may need to be ready to go come September. Same goes for 4-star Dominick Blayock.

P.s. Has Kirby Smart lost control of the Georgia football program?!
