The Red Wings Are A Favorite For The First Time In 107 Games (Plus Rear Admiral's Gambling Corner)

I have no idea what the record number of games is for an NHL team to be an underdog because hockey gambling records aren't the easiest to track down (hockey gamblers only account for about 2% of Vegas sportsbook action). Not to mention the whole system of gambling on the NHL changed from just a puck line (i.e. 1-1.5) to money lines when ties were eliminated 16 years ago, thank Christ.

But I wonder if a team has ever been a 'dog over three different seasons before (yes, two were shortened). Those early-'90s Ottawa Senators teams are probably the best candidate in the last 35-40 years. Their records over their first four seasons before making the playoffs in their fifth season: 10-70-4, 14-61-9, 9-34-5, 18-59-5. If they were a fave at all in those first few seasons, it was likely a home game vs. expansion cousins Tampa Bay and/or San Jose.

Ironically the last time the Wings were faves (as best I can tell) was against the Sens on 11/19/19, a game they lost 4-3. That's pretty insane. And a reminder that the bill comes due for all dynasties. As for the game, I have no lean either way and won't be touching it.

But I am all over the Colorado Avalanche tonight. Nate Dogg is back in the line-up. And the team will rebound after its shitty start in Saturday's loss to the Blues. The Avs are a contender, the Caps aren't. Here are the plays...

We're also offering these Spittin' Chiclets props in the Barstool Sportsbook tonight.
