Jarren Duran Trolled A Boston TV Host Then Seemed To Delete His Instagram Account As the Red Sox Lose Yet Again

I don't even think the clip is that bad.

On Saturday, Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran trolled Boston TV host Michael Holley on Instagram. By Sunday night, Duran had deactivated his IG account. Or nuked it completely, I can't tell. But you can't see it anymore, and you can't search for it on IG.

So, what did Holley say that was so pointed to got Duran to respond in the first place?

“I understand why all teams do it, but let’s just be honest. All teams lie. They lie about injuries, they just do. Tell me a forthcoming organization in this city when it comes to injuries. They just don’t. So when the Red Sox did it, like, why are we doing this? Why are you playing games with us? This is an unnecessary lie! We know you’re lying! Stop it. ‘He’s day-to-day.’ No, he’s not! And then Chad Tracy doubling down, ‘Oh, he’s gonna be on the IL....on the shorter end.... No, he’s not, Chad!!!! No, he’s not! He’s not!”

(I added the four !!!! to that Chad line. Might just be one !)

Holley went on to suggest that Roman Anthony's season has been "one of the biggest flops we've seen."

An absolute nothing-burger.

Holley was making the point that the Red Sox, like a lot of professional sports teams, lie about injuries. Anthony is on the IL with a hand injury, and the Sox say it's not a big deal.

I don't really believe them.

I'd bet it's much more likely that Anthony misses more time than it is that he comes back the day he's eligible to come off the IL. That's not a knock on Anthony. It's accepting the reality that teams want to give their fans the best-case scenario when it comes to players coming back from injury - the Red Sox are not different.

Pitcher Johan Oviedo's injury was no big deal at first, but then he couldn't move his elbow, and now he's on the 60-day DL. Garrett Crochet was supposed to be on the IL for a quick stint. On Sunday, Chad Tracy said he has not thrown from the mound yet, and his return was “not imminent.” You can't blame fans or media for not buying what the Sox are selling when it comes to injuries.

I guess Duran disagrees? Or was he sticking up for his teammate Anthony? Or just doesn't like Holley?

It's been a tough start to 2026 for Duran. He's batting just .194 with a .577 OPS and is on pace for about a 1.5 WAR season. None of that is good. If Duran were having a better season, this might not have been a big deal. And the outfielder does have his supporters.

But in the aftermath of his IG post, many more fans pointed out his lousy year than supported the player. And when you're hitting .190, and you have this much blue on your Savant page, people don't want you on IG trolling TV hosts. I get it. Holley, by the way, not some sort of Boston Media flamethrower. I don't get the sense his takes are attempts at clicks and views. I mean, this might be his first viral clip in years, thanks to Duran.

It's a bad look. All of it. The Sox don't play Monday, but Duran will be asked about it when the team hosts the Phillies on Tuesday.

He's supposed to be a leader in the clubhouse, but he did not want to talk to reporters after Alex Cora got fired. Let's see if he waves off reporters again when they come calling on Tuesday.

Duran, like his team, continues to struggle. They dropped two of three to the Rays over the weekend. Because the AL is so bad, they're still in the Wild Card mix just two games back. But they have the third-worst record in the league, and there are six teams ahead of them in the standings.

Series Stock Watch

📈 Stock Up: Wilyer Abreu. Sox's best player this season had another HR and a great couple of plays in the OF.

📈 Stock Up: Connelly Early. Dominant Friday night, allowing just four hits over seven innings.

📈 Stock Up: Garrett Whitlock. Looked 'back' Friday in the win.

📈 Stock Up: Mickey Gasper. New Hampshire native had three hits on Sunday.

📈 Stock Up: Chandler Simpson. Most electric player in baseball.

📉Stock Down: Red Sox ownership.

Bullshit. Just a TERRIBLE job by the team Saturday. The forecast called for rain all afternoon. The Woo Sox (Sox AAA team in Massachusetts) canceled their game in the morning. You're playing the Rays, so plenty of chances to make the game up. The Sox had fans drive all the way in, park, and open Fenway, only to postpone 10 minutes before first pitch. Embarrassing stuff just to sell some beers on a Saturday. I mean, NESN was talking about the Saturday rain making the game unlikely on Friday's broadcast. Bad, bad look here, and the Sox have pulled this before.

📉Stock Down: Sox offense. Just seven runs over three games.

📉Stock Down: Jarren Duran. Just one extra-base hit last week.

📉Stock Down: Trevor Story. Terrible play behind Payton Tolle on Sunday. Needs to be moved off shortstop. Those boos from fans at Fenway 100% warranted.

We talked about it all on Episode 31 of Dirty Water - A Boston Sports Podcast. Just me and HogDale, picking through the wreckage of another Sox series loss.
